1,500 claim to be poor in the eyes of the tax authority – the first claims “uncovered” expenses.

The tax office is sending out inspection invitations to thousands of taxpayers who declared an income of less than 10,000 euros, but were found to be spending thirty times more, and will now have to justify their expenses.

As reported by Apogiomatini, AADE is preparing to send “calls” for clarifications to at least 1,500 taxpayers with significant discrepancies between their “tax file” and their living expenses, asking them to provide the necessary data to justify the expenses they have incurred.

According to Apogomatini, these are taxpayers who, after checking the data, found that although they declared an income of less than 10,000 euros, their living expenses in the same period exceeded 30,000, and in some cases even 300,000 euros.

Specifically, the reference data relates to:

  • Card payments
  • Interest on deposits, but also on bank accounts with cumulative movements exceeding 100,000 euros during the year
  • Interest and loan installments from consumer and mortgage to credit cards
  • Retail expenses in all types of shops and supermarkets
  • Spending on assets from real estate and cars to yachts
  • Life, death, personal accident and health insurance expenses
  • Hospitalization in private hospitals
  • Tuition fees in private schools
  • Electricity, water and telephone expenses if they exceed 1000 euros
