It had a focal depth of 13 kilometers
A 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck minutes after 15:30 with its epicenter at Atlantis, and was particularly felt in Attica.
According to the Geodynamic Institute’s revised solution, the earthquake had a focal depth of 13.6 kilometers and the epicenter was 13 kilometers southwest of Atlantic.
There is currently no information on damage.
However, according to EuroMediterranean, the earthquake measured 4.9 on the Richter scale, with an epicenter 17 km south-southwest of Livadia and a focal depth of 2 km.
Seismologists are cautious as they don’t know if this is a major earthquake or not.
In his first statement, Efthymios Lekkas, head of the OASP, said, “The first assessment is that we are initially dealing with an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 according to the European network. Then it was downgraded to 4.8, which is not the final magnitude of this earthquake.
Speaking to MEGA, Mr. Lekas pointed out that the earthquake was not connected to the Atlantic fault. Yet, as he said, the Atalandi fault is not yet ripe for an earthquake.
“It’s a fault that we face with awe,” he said, adding that it is the closest or cross section of the Atalandi fault, at least 200 km away.
Mr. Lekas advised citizens to avoid old buildings prone to landslides, while urging them to be careful not to lose patience.
It is noteworthy that massive earthquakes have occurred in this region.
