At least 200 firefighters are at the scene of a major fire in The Bronx.
At least 54 people have been injured in a massive fire in New York City.
Authorities say more than 200 firefighters were at the scene of a 5-alarm fire that broke out Sunday morning in a duplex apartment on the third floor of a tall building in the Tremonds section of The Bronx. Of the dozens injured, 31 have life-threatening injuries, according to FDNY.
Many of the injured were on the upper floors, officials said, adding that they may have been affected by smoke inhalation.
Nineteen people were treated at the scene and released, while the remaining victims were taken to area hospitals, the New York City Fire Department said.
Dramatic pictures posted on social media show the fire coming out of several windows of the building. FDNY started receiving calls from several residents on the upper floors just before 11am
The fire was extinguished.
Additional details, including the conditions of the victims, were not immediately available.
It was the second major fire in the Bronx over the weekend. The 4-alarm fire, which started early Saturday morning in the Fordham Heights section of the Bronx, injured a firefighter and displaced three families, ABC New York station WABC Reported. Authorities said the lithium-ion battery caught fire.
Last week, a fire broke out on the second floor of a row house in Philadelphia 13 people were killed, Including seven children.
