The Japanese ambassador to Burundi, Masahiro Imai, announced that his country has donated to Burundi with a donation of rice valued at FBU 4.5 billion, after a meeting on Thursday, August 18 between the Japanese diplomat and Burundian head of state, Evarist Ndayishimi.

“Japan supports Burundi in various social and economic fields and we are happy about that,” declared the Burundian head of state, who announced that other priority projects are being implemented with financial assistance from Japan. These are the rehabilitation of roads, the supply of drinking water and the construction of a vocational training center.

“We want to train real technicians in order to promote job creation,” the Japanese ambassador explained, adding that his country is “also studying the possibility of financing the Gitega city lighting project.”

In addition, Japan also intends to increase its support for Burundi in the agricultural field by building a shed for storing food, starting a project to irrigate arable land, setting up a rice polishing plant and re-launching the construction of the Kageji Dam.
