Razer’s Edge is a new offering in mobile cloud gaming – Razer

If you’re worried there hasn’t been a new announcement in the past few days for a portable cloud gaming device, Razer puts things into perspective.

Razer Edge is the latest Android-based offering created by our company a few days ago. The device will initially be released in January with exclusive Wi-Fi connectivity and costs $399.99. A few weeks later, a 5G-enabled version will follow which will be available across Verizon’s network in America, supporting ultra-wideband networks and sub-6GHz networks. Razer follows his example steam surfaceallowing users to pay $5 to keep the Edge in order to get it when it’s released.

According to Razer, the Edge is a great device for streaming games to the cloud via Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now services. Razer says Edge supports up to 144 frames per second via Steam Link when streaming PC games locally. It runs Android 12 with Qualcomm’s G3X Gen 1 chipset, although instead of being an all-in-one phone like G Cloud Gaming Handheld Logitech, is a 6.8 inch tablet that can be detached from the console for normal use. By the way, the controller is Kishi V2 Pro, which is a feature-packed version that includes touch functions and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The gamepad will not be available separately at this time and will initially be bundled with the Razer Edge.

Among the technical characteristics of the device, the 6.8-inch OLED display with a resolution of FHD + (2,400 x 1,080), which has a fast refresh rate of 144 Hz, stands out. Alongside the G3x Gen 1 chipset, which Qualcomm refers to as the “gaming platform”, we find 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, which offers superior performance while the storage space is 128GB. It still has Bluetooth 5.2 for the wireless headphones, and it also has Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, making it compatible with some of the fastest routers like Google’s Nest Wifi Pro, Eero’s Pro 6E, and more.

What sets it apart from the competition is the presence of a front camera so you can stream on Twitch while playing a game or making a Zoom video call. In terms of battery life, Razer said the Edge will have a 5,000mAh battery, so it will likely last quite a while if you’re only using it for cloud gaming streaming.

While the Edge isn’t the first of its kind, you should probably have no problem standing at $399.99, which is just $50 more than the lower-end Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld. If Razer’s 144Hz refresh screen and powerful Qualcomm chipset deliver excellent performance in both streaming games in the cloud and playing Android games on-premises, the Edge could have the upper hand among the fast-growing gaming hardware category.

The Wi-Fi-equipped Edge will be available through the Razer website and RazerStore sites, while the Edge 5G will be available exclusively in the US via Verizon.
