The Government of National Unity of Libya (GNU) rejected today The decision of the Egyptian president Tripoli’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a post on its Facebook page that Egypt’s western maritime borders were unilaterally demarcated.
QNU says Egypt’s decision violates Libya’s rights (apparently meaning the illegal Turkish-Libyan memorandum) and urges Cairo to open negotiations.

It is recalled that Egypt unilaterally determined the maritime borders with Libya with a presidential decree issued on Tuesday (12/13) and signed by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Presidential Decree No. By Decree 595/2022, Egypt demarcated its maritime boundaries to the west with Libya based on a straight line. This cuts the Turkish-Libyan memorandum in half.
With this move, Egypt ignores practically every point of view of Turkey in the texts signed with the Tripoli government, be it the Turkish-Libyan memorandum of 2019 or the hydrocarbons alliance signed last October.
