The tragic toll was two dead and wounded in a shooting at a cafe in the central square of Nea Smyrni. There is panic in the square as heavy police forces have cordoned off the area.
A man dressed in black opened fire and ran away from a cafe in the central square of Ney Smyrni on Sunday night, an eyewitness said. At least 4-5 shots were heard.
Panic prevailed in the square as three others were injured on the spot, with head injuries. He is a 41-year-old of Albanian origin, and police are investigating whether he is involved in criminal cases and linked to the Albanian mafia.
A second injured person, a 42-year-old man, was later admitted to hospital.
A third person, a woman, is said to have sustained minor injuries.
Heavy police forces cordoned off the square and ambulances took away the injured. The culprit remains elusive.
