At least 13 people were killed in floods caused by torrential rains in the quake-hit provinces of Sanliurfa and Antiyaman in southeastern Turkey on Wednesday.

A container housing a family of four seismologists has been washed away in Antiaman torrent. He added, “Unfortunately, we found one of the four missing dead. Turkish Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu announced during his visit to the region that the search for the other three is continuing.”

In Sanliurfa, gushing torrents swept away everything in their path, flooding basements and basements, turning roads into rivers, and showing videos broadcast by Turkish television networks.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) announced the deployment of rescue teams with the help of divers to rescue residents trapped in flooded areas, as well as to locate missing persons. It indicates that more than 100 mm of rain fell in the quake-hit provinces in southeastern Turkey within 24 hours.

The two provinces have a population of about 2.7 million, who are still trying to recover from the deadly Feb. 6 earthquake that killed more than 48,000 people in Turkey and left millions more homeless. Tens of thousands of earthquake victims are still in tents and containers – the temporary roofs of many victims were flooded by heavy rains.
