An exact release date has yet to be announced, but a summer 2023 release window is set. It was also revealed that the game will be based on Source Engine 2.
A free CS:GO upgrade will be available to a small group of CS:GO players starting today, as Valve reveals more details on how you can become part of the limited beta.
according to CS2 official site Unveiled today, it’s “the biggest technical leap in Counter-Strike history, guaranteeing new features and updates for years to come.” In several videos released today, Valve is giving the first experience of what players can expect from the new Counter-Strike game.
In particular, Valve emphasized “updated and revised maps”, “game-changing smoke bombs”, hash rate indie play and redesigned visuals and sound.
Valve says all revised CS2 maps have been “built from the ground up, taking advantage of all new Source 2 tools and rendering features”. Meanwhile, regenerating bombs now have the ability to interact with other in-game events, will expand to virtually fill in spaces, and will react to lightning.
Additionally, “regardless of the hash rate, your movement and shooting will be equally responsive, and grenades will always fall the same way,” according to the announcement.
It is very important that all the player’s CS: GO items are transferred to CS2 with them.
While this is Valve’s first official confirmation of CS2’s existence, rumors really started to surface earlier this month, with well-known Counter-Strike journalist Richard Lewis stating that Valve was preparing to announce the project.
