As we informed you, twenty-four hours ago, the new major software update for iPhonethe iOS 16.4. Among other things, this brought brand new emojis, new accessibility features, and changes to core apps like Apple Books, HomeKit, Podcasts, and more. However, one of the most useful new additions is the sound isolation feature.
In fact, the feature in question came first with iOS 15, changing the way the iPhone’s built-in microphone works. But the problem is that the feature can only be used for FaceTime calls and some third-party apps. So, ever since the update was first introduced in 2021, users have been asking Apple to bring the feature to regular phone calls as well.
Now, the company has finally listened to the feedback and officially introduced a “noise isolation” mode for the microphone for simple calls over phone networks in iOS 16.4. What does this mean; By activating the function, your iPhone will “focus” on your voice and thus automatically cut out all background noise from your microphone. If you speak, for example, while walking on the sidewalk, then only the sounds of cars and passers-by will hear your voice.
How to enable iOS 16.4 Sound Isolation on iPhone?
Since this is a feature of iOS 16.4, you will need to install this new version of the operating system. As long as your iPhone is running iOS 16.4, you can enable sound isolation for simple calls over mobile networks by following these steps:
- Start a call with someone.
- During the call open Control Center as shown in the image below.
- Select microphone mode.
- From the menu that will open, choose the Sound Isolation option.
In case you were wondering, the broad spectrum feature which is also pictured is not available for mobile phone calls. In this mode, the iPhone does the exact opposite and amplifies all ambient sounds.
