Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, MoneySign Suede attorney Nicholas Rosenberg reports that the rapper was stabbed in the neck while showering.
An inmate who spoke to the newspaper anonymously said the 22-year-old was found in a section of the prison that houses general inmates.
It was unusual, he said, as rappers were housed in the yard of prisoners who had specific security concerns or had a public profile.
However, the deceased was in the early stages of his career, so it is unclear if his profile was high enough to warrant such protection.
According to the DailyMail, MoneySign Suede was serving a 32-month prison sentence for the gun charge and was set to face other charges.
