Therefore, each model that is launched into the market battle must compete with a large number of offerings that fall into the same price category, which leads to the need for innovation greater than ever. This must have been Huawei’s mind when designing the FreeBuds 5, its new open-type TWS earphones, which have a suggested retail price of €159 and have few ways of standing out.
Their design is one of the main reasons – if not the main reason – why FreeBuds 5 make a difference. After all, we are talking about the flagship of the Huawei TWS series for 2023, and therefore the premium nature should not only be reflected in the technical characteristics, but also in the appearance. They embrace a futuristic design full of curves that form a signature double C, or if you prefer Anish Kapoor’s Cloud Gate steel sculpture in Chicago’s Millennium Park (they’re delicious).
According to Huawei, to develop the FreeBuds 5 design, more than 10,000 simulations were performed based on real ear designs around the world. In this way, a design was created that guarantees a firm grip and greater comfort, being 0.3 mm smaller than the previous generation. Our own experience with the FreeBuds 5 has been positive: they stayed in our ears without any particular issues giving us a solidly balanced experience, acknowledging of course that the design in headphones is what we call “hit or miss” and depends on the individual user.
