“No” to the NATO leadership from Denmark

The Danish Prime Minister has said that she has no intention of taking over the leadership of NATO

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen insisted today that she is not seeking to lead NATO, after meeting in the Oval Office with US President Joe Biden and a separate discussion with CIA Director William Burns earlier.

“I have said it before, that I am not running for any other office than the one I already hold, and that has not changed after my meeting with the American president,” Frederiksen told reporters outside the White House.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is set to leave the post later this year. Frederiksen’s name, as a possible successor, has been heard a lot in recent weeks, following a related publication in the Norwegian newspaper VG.

Frederiksen told reporters she met Burns in Washington, but gave no details. Her conversations with Biden were scheduled to last 45 minutes but ended in about two hours.
