Today, the Russian Consulate in the city announced the death of a 24-year-old Russian man, as a result of a shark attack off the coast of Hurghada in the Red Sea, and the Egyptian authorities confirmed.
A rescue worker from a nearby hotel raised the alarm when he saw the shark attack and some rushed to help the hapless bather, but it was already too late, according to a diver who arrived a few minutes later. {https://twitter.com/AlanAbdo13/status/1666816998284865536?s=20}
The Egyptian Ministry of Environment said in a Facebook post that a tiger shark was responsible for the death of the bather, without giving details about the victim. The shark has been caught, according to the same source.
Authorities in the popular Red Sea resort have banned swimming, snorkeling and other water sports at several beaches near the site of the attack. Russia’s Tass news agency said the victim was a Russian man born in 1999 who moved to Egypt and was not there for tourism.
