At the age of 92, George Soros decided to hand over the reins of government to one of his sons, 37-year-old Alexander Soros.
American billionaire George Soros transferred control of his empire to his son Alexander Soros, whose main concern will be to fight the possibility of Donald Trump returning to power, according to the Wall Street Journal (Wall Street Journal).
A black sheep for ultra-conservatives and a target of anti-Semitic attacks, George Soros began in the 1980s to create a network of foundations (Open Society Foundations) that invest around the world to support a variety of causes, from economic and justice reforms to minority and refugee rights and freedom of expression.
At the age of 92, he decided to hand over the reins of government to one of his sons, 37-year-old Alexander.
In an interview published today in The Wall Street Journal, George Soros’ successor explained that he is “more political” than his father and that he worries about the idea of Donald Trump being re-elected to the White House in 2024.
“I would love for money to play a lesser role in politics, but as long as the other side does, we should continue to do so,” Alexander Soros told the Wall Street Journal.
Under his leadership, the OSF will continue on the same path — supporting democracies, political figures on the American left, etc. — but will also add other goals, such as advocating for abortion rights and gender equality.
Alexander Soros was elected chairman of the foundation’s board in December, and has since directed the network’s political activities, centered on the “Super PAC,” a scheme that donates money to the election campaigns of political candidates.
He’s the only member of the family to sit on the investment committee of Soros Fund Management, the firm that oversees resource allocation, according to the WSJ.
Alexander Soros says he wants to get involved in American affairs more than his father. He supports programs that encourage Hispanic and Black voters to exercise their right to vote and calls on elected officials who identify with the Democratic Party to improve their communications.
Our camp needs to look more patriotic and inclusive. Just because someone votes for Trump doesn’t mean they’re a loser or a racist.”
Originally known for his investment and profit-making activities, George Soros has dedicated his money to defending his ideas, from the fight against apartheid in South Africa to supporting people fighting for democracy in dictatorial regimes.
