In addition to recognizing songs using your microphone, Shazam can now identify songs on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. This can be very useful when you are watching a video and the description does not include any information about the track playing in the background.
In the latest update (v15.36), as first discovered by the site 9to5MacApple described the process for recognizing a song in any of the above apps. The user will first need to open Shazam, hit the big blue button, and head back to YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok to play the track in order to be informed of the results.
Shazam is also available on Android mobile phones. On this platform, the app provides a similar feature when it comes to identifying songs from other apps. However, users must give the app explicit permission to “listen” to the audio coming from other apps. In 2019, the app, which has been owned by Apple since September 2018, gained the ability to recognize songs you listen to through headphones.
Apple completed its acquisition of Shazam in 2017 for $400 million. Soon after, it added a Shazam option to the iOS Control Center, for instant access and starting the song selection process.
In May, TikTok launched its “New Music” feature. TikTok helps users find new tracks and artists by promoting their latest releases.
