The “battle” presented by the unfortunate father of three in Evros ended after he was dragged and crashed into his car by a 33-year-old Turkish citizen, after an argument with him.
It all started on Friday afternoon, when the 57-year-old was returning from work. He was on his way from Alexandroupoli to his village of Gemisti. As Gordons approached the customs office, he saw the kilometer line. He asked a driver to pull him over to return to the bypass to the village, but a fight ensued and one of the drivers ran him over with his car.
His children were waiting for a miracle until the end. The unfortunate father struggled in the hospital for four days, but he could not bear it. The injuries were very bad. He sustained severe head injuries in the blow.
His son, 57, spoke to the Star’s flagship newscast and Katerina Rista about the agony they endured during the days he fought to stay alive, and described how the tragedy unfolded:
“First they said it was a car accident, then he hit him with a crowbar, but what I do know is that he hit him with a car and ran over him.”He said at the beginning and added:
“Usually there should be an open path for a person to go out and go home. There was no open road, not even an emergency, it was all jammed, kilometers. It’s sad that we live here every summer and can’t go to my grandmother, my village! Egnatia Street, 2-3 kilometers, should be continuously blocked for a month. There is no police there,” he said.
Police handcuffed the driver. He was a 33-year-old Turkish national who lived in France and was on his way to his homeland. A case of attempted murder has been registered against him and he will give his statement to the investigating officer on Tuesday morning.
