As we informed you, a few hours ago, the Microsoft and the Sony They put an end to the months of fierce confrontation that broke out on the occasion of its acquisition Activision Blizzard. In particular, the two gaming giants finally joined forces, signing a contract that guarantees the release of Call of duty the games Play Station.
The announcement was made by the head of Microsoft’s gaming division, Phil Spencer, who said:
We are pleased to announce that Microsoft and PlayStation have signed a binding agreement to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. We look forward to a future where gamers around the world have more options to play their favorite games.
However, there were many question marks around Good print of the said agreement. For example: How long are Call of Duty games on PlayStation? Are we just talking about Call of Duty or the rest of Activision’s releases?
Microsoft confirmed to The Verge that Sony’s 10-year Call of Duty deal is limited to CoD. Microsoft originally offered to keep “existing Activision console titles on Sony,” including future versions of existing Activision games on PS until the end of 2027. https://t.co/yq4GadNGAi pic.twitter.com/OtmbylAGv7

We finally got answers to these two important questions from a journalist for The Verge, who contacted a representative of the American giant. So, as it turns out, The contract signed by Sony lasts until 2033that is, for the next Decade. What happens after it expires depends on both companies and whether they want to sign a similar agreement again.
As for the games it covers, actually The deal covers only the Call of Duty franchise. This is a significant difference from the original contract Microsoft proposed to Sony in January 2022, which PlayStation’s Jim Ryan publicly called “inadequate”.
In particular, the original contract stipulated that Activision Blizzard’s games were already kept on Sony consoles until 2027, and this included both Call of Duty and its future releases, as well as all other franchises of the company and its future chapters, until the same date.
This means that the contract signed by Sony is both worse and better. On the one hand, it ensures that Call of Duty will remain on PlayStation for many years and not only until 2027, but on the other hand, Microsoft does not make any other commitment to the rest of Activision Blizzard’s franchises, such as Overwatch, Diablo, Crash, etc.
Of course, since we’re in the final stretch of the deal, we’ll soon have clear answers about how Microsoft intends to manage the publishing company’s rich roster of IPs and studios.
