In recent years, Apple may have been accused of abandoning innovation in both technology development and design, but the American giant has submitted to the competent US agency a new patent that appears to relate to the development of technology that leads to the creation of a mobile phone with a screen … wrapped.
Apple designs the interior of the new smartphone with multiple layers to protect it from damage while it is being rolled. The first layer could consist of paint followed by a layer of polyamide, a type of plastic used in everything from aircraft components to sporting goods and adhesives.
The outer layer will be the thinnest and made of a polymer popular in Teflon-coated plastic bags, clothing and cookware. The screen will “bend” around a pivot as it rolls onto a roller to be stored. The polymers used will be durable and provide thermal and electrical insulation. Since Apple announced the debut of its new iPhone model in September, a wraparound device is sure to appear next year if, of course, the company finally decides to bring it to the market.
