The James Webb Telescope has captured the farthest image of the star yet

Astronomers use the space telescope James Webb To observe Eärendel, the most distant star ever discovered.

Eärendel is so far away that the starlight seen by Webb’s telescope was emitted during the first billion years of the universe. The universe is estimated to be about 13.8 billion years old.

Previous estimates had suggested that the star was 12.9 billion light-years from Earth, but given the expansion of the universe and the time it takes light to reach Earth, astronomers believe that Eärendel is currently 28 billion light-years away.

The star’s name comes from the Old English words for “morning star” or “bright light”. The Hubble Space Telescope will observe Eärendel for the first time in 2022.

Earendel is a massive B-type star about a million times brighter than our Sun and twice as hot.

The James Webb international program is led by NASA with partners the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency.

This year, the telescope discovered some of the first galaxies ever observed. Provide the most detailed picture yet of the atmospheres of planets outside our solar system It has captured new perspectives on the planets within our solar system.
