Official Magic VS2, Honor’s third foldable phone in a few months – Honor

This comes after the release of Magic V2 last July and Magic V Purse in September. Coupled with the international launch of the Magic VS earlier at IFA, Honor seems keen to quickly develop its offering in the foldable smartphone segment.

However, the Magic VS2 is not a major new release, but rather a small update aimed at a more affordable version for this category. It weighs 229g, which is only slightly lighter than the Magic V2 at 231g, however, it is marginally thicker when folded at 10.7mm compared to the V2’s 9.9-10.1mm.

Interestingly, the VS2 has a previous-generation processor, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 instead of the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the Honor V2. Many other specifications remain the same, including a 6.43-inch external display, a 7.92-inch foldable internal display, a 50-megapixel primary camera, and a 5,000 mAh battery with 66W fast charging support.

Given the slightly worse specs, the Magic VS2 is discounted in China, at 6,999 yen (about $958) for the base model with 12GB of RAM/256GB. The V2 started at 8,999 yen (about $1,232) for the 16GB/256GB version. The VS2 will initially be released in China on October 17, while there is currently no update on its availability in Europe.

It’s worth noting that the VS2 is launching in China before the V2 or V Purse is released internationally. Honor’s rapid pace of launching foldable devices is unprecedented globally. While the mature Chinese market supports this pace, it remains to be seen whether markets like Europe and North America can maintain similar timelines for the rollout of foldable devices. Models like Google’s Pixel Fold and OnePlus’ Open later this year will serve as an early test, as related proposals become more popular in a market dominated by Samsung with the Galaxy Z series.
