A couple from Scotland couldn’t believe their ears when Tesla asked them for 20,000 euros to change the battery due to rain.

Johnny Bacigalupo and Rob Hussey said the problem started after they went out to eat earlier this month in Edinburgh on a particularly rainy day. Upon going to the restaurant, the car showed no signs of damage. But when they went to place him in front of them to leave, he was “dead.”

They called Tesla’s roadside assistance, and a tow truck arrived five hours later to pick up the car.

The owner of a Tesla car states that he received a call from Tesla service informing him that the battery was damaged due to water entering and that unfortunately it is not covered by the 8-year battery warranty, and therefore the repair will cost approximately 17,500 pounds sterling (20,000 euros).

He said: “I was told on the phone that there was water in it because the weather in Scotland was so bad that day. That was the problem. They said it’s not necessarily my fault, but Tesla has no right to pay under the warranty. To be honest, if I had known the customer service would be this bad, I’m not sure I would have bothered to buy the car.”

While the pair admit that parts of Scotland were under a special weather warning last week, they say rain in Edinburgh was not unusual for the region.
