Interventions delayed for months – new floating platforms for 30 ships to dock
After more than 20 months of delay, interventions are now underway to repair cracks in the northern pier of Heraklion, about one and a half kilometers from Cole Castle to the lighthouse.
The images revealed by the lens of CRETE TV are very disturbing, as the collapses caused concern to the services of the Heraklion Port Authority and citizens expressed their fears about the risk of an accident.
It is a problem point in part of the dam wall in terms of its stability and its length is about 70 metres. In order to carry out the necessary works, a large part of the northern pier was closed.
At the same time, works are underway to improve and modernize the infrastructure in the Venice Port. In the final stage, work is underway to install floating platforms to dock 30 ships.
Regarding the dredging of the entrance to the Venetian port, the relevant works are expected to be completed immediately, but archeology has given a “red light” to interventions near the monument, where fishermen are at risk with their boats. She also highlighted the television lens last March.
