Saturn’s rings will disappear in 2025

The most recognizable planet in our solar system is undoubtedly Saturn, whose distinctive rings have been admired ever since humans first looked up at the stars.

However, these rings will stop appearing from Earth during the next few months, as confirmed by NASA, according to what was published by the Daily Mail.

In particular, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration confirmed that Saturn’s huge rings, made up of dust and ice particles and dozens of satellites, will soon stop appearing from our planet.

Saturn’s rings are huge, extending 140,000 kilometers in some places. However, its thickness is very small in comparison, reaching only 10 metres, in the main ‘rings’. Thus, the rings cannot be easily seen from the side, so if the observer’s perspective changes, the rings “disappear.”

Therefore, such an extinction is expected to occur in 2025, which will be due to a change in the inclination of the rings, which will begin to be observed more strongly from the new year. This change will cause observers from Earth to see Saturn from the side. Thus, astronomers expect Saturn’s rings to disappear almost completely by 2025.

But the good news is that Saturn’s rings will begin to appear again, starting in 2032, when their inclination will change again, during the next phase of the planet’s orbit, which lasts about 29 years.

It is noteworthy that the last time this astronomical event occurred was in September 2009, and before that it had not occurred since February 1996.
