Bad weather from Italy “Alexis” will bring heavy rain, storms, gale force winds and snow in the northern mountains on Saturday night, the country will get its first taste of winter next weekend.
According to meteorologists, this phenomenon is the result of the meeting of two “wind rivers”, one from the North Pole and one from North Africa, which will affect the weather in our country.
Snow in central and northern Greece
According to ERT’s meteorologist, Panagiotis Giannopoulos, the weekend will see heavy rain and stormy, gale-force winds, while snow will fall in the northern mountains on Saturday night. Showers and storms will begin on Friday, but they will spread across the country and become more intense on Saturday.
Snow will fall in other areas, such as Kalavrita, and in central and northern Greece.
Rain will also fall in Athens on Saturday night, while south-west and north-westerly gales will blow across the country. Temperatures will show a significant drop, not exceeding 14 degrees Celsius in the capital.
“Polar River” is coming
For his part, meteorologist Clearchos Maroussakis, in his post on Facebook, warns of the possibility of dangerous events due to rivers of wind, which could bring bad weather early next week.
As he says, rivers of air high up in the atmosphere (including polar and subtropical) are expected to divert the weather systems below, bring the North Pole further south to the Old Continent, and sneakily wink at our country as well. A reminder that winter may not make its presence felt in the south of Europe, however, it secretly observes developments waiting to reach our country for the perfect moment to climb the polar river.
According to the map he cited, “where the rivers of air high in the atmosphere are depicted, we see the polar river turning towards our country, and as a result, the polar air mass will reach the northern parts of the country on Sunday and Monday-Tuesday”.
And he adds:
“However, looking at the same map, at the end of the video, we see a second river of wind blowing from the coast of North Africa towards the Cyprus region. It’s mainly these two wind rivers that flow through the Northern Hemisphere and that control – determines the aerial weather traffic.
In fact, when these two rivers get angry, they create dangerously bad weather. So even now these two rivers seem very angry, the order they bring will save us from the worst.”
