As of 2020, Meta has integrated Messenger and Instagram conversations. But now, starting mid-December, the cross-platform feature will be discontinued and chats between the two apps will be separated again.
When the new app update comes, you will no longer be able to start new conversations or calls from Instagram with your Facebook friends and vice versa. If you already have existing conversations with Facebook accounts on Instagram, those conversations will be read-only and you won’t be able to follow them. In addition, you will not be able to see the activity status or see the “reading” indicator. Finally, existing chats with Facebook accounts will not be moved to the inbox for either platform.
