iPhone 13 and 14 will support the Qi2 wireless charging standard with iOS 17.2 – iPhone

The company claims that the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro already support Qi2, but there are no Qi2 chargers on the market yet. One year ago at CES 2023, we got a closer look at the companies’ prototypes dominating the space, and as everything shows, at the beginning of January, CES 2024 will be where the first commercial products will be announced.

The Qi2 is an improvement on the Qi wireless charging standard that adds a ring of magnet similar to MagSafe and increases the charging rate to 15W. For Android smartphones, this means they can enjoy faster and more convenient wireless charging as well as use a wide range of magnetic wireless chargers developed to support MagSafe iPhones. For iPhones, this means they can get MagSafe-level charging without paying high MagSafe-level accessory prices. Currently, if you use a non-MagSafe certified magnetic wireless charger to charge your iPhone, charging speeds are limited to 7.5W, but if you use a MagSafe certified charger (which costs more than other wireless chargers), you can get speeds of up to 15W .

The main question is how quickly you can charge an iPhone 13 or 14 using a Qi2 charger. Apple had previously confirmed the edge The iPhone 15 series will charge up to 15 watts on Qi2 chargers, but it did not mention at the time whether Qi2 would come to older iPhones, and so far it has not specifically mentioned that the iPhone 13 and 14 will charge at 15 watts on Qi2 chargers.

Apple usually releases the final version of iOS a few days after announcing the release candidate, so it’s possible that iOS 17.2 will be available to everyone this week or next week at the latest.
