Spanish clothing company Sfera is leaving Greece after 19 years.
In Greece, Sfera stores first operated in 2005 with the opening of the first large shopping malls.
It was founded in 2001 as a small company offering the Spanish market good quality clothing at affordable prices.
The giant El Corte Inglés took it under its umbrella and grew. Sfera has become a global lifestyle brand, with a global presence while also expanding in Greece with stores in Athens (one in Athens Mall, one in Omonia) and in Thessaloniki.
Recently, “clearance” prices have been low in stores, heralding sophistication.
The store at the Athens Mall has already closed its doors for good, mall managers confirmed, while the rest will follow during January.
The Spanish fashion brand has a globally recognized reach with more than 500 points of sale in 20 countries.
It belongs to the El Corte Ingles group, which was founded in 1940 and is the largest department store chain in Europe, with sales exceeding $15.5 billion, equivalent to 2.4% of Spain's GDP (gross domestic product).
