A witness from the camp stated that he and his brother followed the parachute aid in the hope of obtaining a “bag of flour.” Muhammad Al-Ghoul said: “Suddenly, the parachute did not open and fell like a missile onto the roof of a house.” “Ten minutes later, I saw people carrying three witnesses and other wounded people, living on the roof of the house where the aid packages fell.”

The United States and Jordan are among the countries that have airdropped aid into northern Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of people face dire conditions after more than five months of war. A US Defense Department official told Agence France-Presse that “the United States did not cause casualties during the airdrop on Gaza,” while a Jordanian military source said that the Kingdom's four aircraft participating in the operation did not participate in the casualties.

“We are aware of reports of civilian deaths as a result of humanitarian airstrikes. Our condolences go out to the families of those killed. Contrary to some reports, this was not the result of US airstrikes,” US Central Command said in a post on X late Friday night.

Referring to the five people killed on Friday, the Hamas-run government media office in Gaza said the air strikes were “useless” and “not the best way to deliver aid.”
