Motorola is reportedly preparing a new flagship phone in the Edge series, but there are so many leaks that it seems likely that there will be no surprises left for the official presentation. Aside from the leaked information about the device's design, the features it is said to have could make Motorola's new offering compete with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Android Headlines has leaked images suggesting promotions for the upcoming Motorola Edge 50 Pro, a device that will likely launch as the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) in the US market.
As long as the rumors of the new device are confirmed at the official launch, it does not seem that Motorola is ready to abandon its distinctive design choices. Like the previous two generations of flagship models of the Edge series, the new proposal seems to follow the slim design and strikingly curved display of its predecessors.
However, it looks like 2024 will prove to be a year of design experimentation for Motorola. The purple color appears to include a leather finish, perhaps inspired by the way Motorola has handled some of its foldable phones recently. Then we have the black version, which probably takes some inspiration from the rough finish of older OnePlus phones.
Finally, we have a white shade, combined with a metal frame that hints at imitation platinum. Also interesting is the simple island housing the cameras on the back, which blends seamlessly into the rest of the back. Something similar was recently introduced with the Oppo Find X5 in an impressive Pearl White finish.
The leak talks about a 6.7-inch OLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate, which is one of the highest rates on any device right now, gaming or not. Motorola's new proposal is said to be based on Qualcomm's eighth-generation Snapdragon, supported by 12GB of RAM, while the 50MP main sensor shines in the triple lens arrangement at the back.
Another area where the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) excels is charging technology. The 4,500 mAh battery in the sleek body is said to support 125W fast wired charging, which could see Motorola offer the fastest charging laptop in the US. For comparison, these numbers make Motorola's upcoming flagship roughly three to four times faster to charge than corresponding offerings from Samsung and Apple.
In addition to the above, the upcoming device is said to also support 50W wireless charging, which is again faster than what Apple and Samsung have been able to achieve so far, wired. Motorola appears to be aiming for the fastest charging from OnePlus, which currently offers 100W charging for the OnePlus 12.
According to the information so far, the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) phone will be launched on April 3rd in China, but there is nothing specific about its release date in America. The Lenovo-owned company usually offers its proposals in the Edge series at competitive prices, and it will be interesting to see if the next flagship will follow the same pricing logic. Last year's Motorola offering, the Edge Plus (2023), was a huge success, so it makes sense that the launch of its successor will be eagerly awaited.
