[03/2024] 10+1 new apps worth trying!

Spring is coming, and it's time for renewal. The easiest way to renew is to add some new applications to your mobile phone, which can change your daily life a little, although the easiest way to truly renew is to put the mobile phone aside and take the mountains – literally -. Since mountains are not for everyone, let's take a look at some applications.

NotiNotes – Notification notes

Creating notes is a different experience for everyone, for some it's a work tool, for others it's an important part of their daily life, and for others… it's simply useless.

If you belong to any category that finds notes useful, NotiNotes is definitely worth a look.

The app exists as a panel in Quick Settings, which means you can access note-taking from anywhere. You can check the box, write your note, and it will now turn into a notification, which will stay in your notification drawer until you delete it. Simple, fast, and very useful.

Here we have a slightly different ad blocker, since Ad-Silence works on apps like Spotify, Acuradio, and Tidal, and is automatically muted when ads play.

FlashDim takes advantage of a new API added by Google in Android 13 that allows apps to control the volume and functionality of your device's built-in Flash.

This means that it will not work on all devices, but if your mobile phone does not already have the ability to control the flash volume, you can take a test, as the app is free, and does not need any tricks to work.

Wi-Fi AR

Have you ever wondered which place in your home has the best WiFi signal? If you have gaps in which room? Where can you get 5G indoors? For all of these, the easiest solution is WiFi AR, which uses your phone's camera to show you in augmented reality the strength of the WiFi and mobile networks in your area, with information about the signal strength at each point, lucky interferences, and much more. Video summary

Have you ever found a video with an interesting topic, but it's 2 hours long and you're bored watching it? And in that case, there's a video summary!

All you have to do is copy and paste the video link into Video Summarizer, and the app uses artificial intelligence, namely 40 highly intelligent hamsters in the creator's basement, to generate a written summary of the video.

The only downside to the whole thing is that at the moment you can't do a summary in Greek, so even if you put a video in Greek, it will give you a summary in English.

Color changing camera

A slightly strange app, which you might find useful, is the following one, since Color Changing Camera is exactly what its name indicates. You can mark anything using your camera, tap on an object, and the app allows you to change its color. The results are usually good, with color shifting of course resulting in anything being the same color you're aiming for, so there are instances where you won't be able to get the job done, but for a powerful app that does what you want in seconds, it's not a bad result.

Sync

Back to the useful apps, Syncthing lets you have a shared folder (or multiple folders) which will automatically sync across all your devices when you change a file. So you can install it on your tablet, PC, and mobile phone, connect them together, and choose which folders you want to automatically sync with every file addition, removal, or change, without having to do anything else.

It is an excellent case in case you want to sync your photos as well, for example with your computer, just know that at the moment there is only the sync option, so if you delete a photo from your mobile phone, it will also be deleted from your computer.

rez launcher

The time when Launcher mode on Android was easy, smooth and useful may have passed years ago, but using your mobile phone with a different Launcher is still a nice break from everyday life.

ReZ Launcher is an attempt to revive the defunct Nokia Z Launcher, and is designed to distract you as little as possible when you pick up your phone. A list of apps containing text, others containing icons and the ability to draw the first letter of the app you're interested in on the screen to find it, is all you'll need to use your mobile phone, in one of the lowest user experiences we've seen.

Voice remover, music separator

Audio remover, music splitter, also known as unmix, can help you separate music from vocals, or instruments in audio files, which sounds useful in theory, but in practice I don't know if you'll find a “serious” use. Maybe if you want to create karaoke tracks from your favorite songs, or isolate a guitar or drum solo from the rest of the track.

The free version can split 3-minute tracks, and for longer you'll need the premium version.

Finch: A pet that takes care of itself

Finch is one of the best ideas I've seen implemented recently. It's basically an app that prompts you to take care of a digital pet… by taking care of yourself. To stay fit, your virtual pet must complete goals related to your well-being, such as going outside for a while, staying away from social media for a while, drinking a glass of water, or answering your mom's phone (sorry mom, I'll take you).

Great app with great user interface and very useful for most of us. I think easily the best on today's menu.

Double background

Dual Wallpaper is another app from the creator of NotiNotes that we saw at the beginning of the list. Here things are simpler, as Dual Wallpaper in practice allows you to have two different wallpapers, or the same wallpaper in a different shade, depending on whether you have light or dark mode on your device.
