With three new stores in northern Greece, the retail network of clothing and home decor chain Pepco has been enriched with the Polish company growing rapidly and is already studying candidate spots for a new opening in Thessaloniki, a strong consumer market for the chain.
Since 2023 ended with satisfactory sales and turnover and the customer visits the store at least once every week or two, the Pepco brand that debuted in the domestic market at the end of 2022 was quickly accepted by the consuming public. To date, there are 30 stores across the country, while the company plans to open more in Larissa in April, and in Ptolemida, Komotini and Patras in June and July.
As he indicated in his statements ThessToday.gr o Pepco Expansion Manager, Mr. Konstantinos Vlassis, the target of 20 points of sale per year was set with the Greek market described as a fairly successful entry for the company. “It continues to develop dynamically by expanding its activity in the central arteries of each city, especially in complexes and commercial centers,” he said characteristically. Naturally, he also expressed the difficulty of finding properties with an area of 500 square meters. Which will also conform to the specifications of the stores, pointing out that it is “a rare area in terms of space and its owners are not ready to invest in their properties.” We try to do our best to choose suitable locations for the company.”
Referring to Thessaloniki, there are already five points of sale, two of which are located in the same area as Public in Stavroupoli and Pylaia, as part of the Polish chain's synergy for joint exploitation of available commercial spaces. A new store is also expected to open, with the company already considering potential sites in the city centre, however, it is not currently included in its plans due to rising rents. “As long as rental prices allow so that our product is also sustainable, Pepco plans to expand in the city center of Thessaloniki, such as on Tsimiski Street,” Mr. Vlassis explained.
Expansion into northern Greece
In the rest of northern Greece, Bibco stores operate in Veria, Kilkis, Serres and Xanthi. The two new points of sale will be installed in Komotini and Ptolemida in the same area as AB Vassilopoulos, but with a separate entrance from the supermarket. It is about the cooperation that has developed between the two companies in which AB Vasilopoulos makes available space for the Polish chain, while studying additional points proposed by AB for further cooperation.
It is noteworthy that the main customer of Bibco, which adapts to the development conditions in each country, are mothers and children, while it offers constantly renewed products on a seasonal basis and targets all family members. It does not have an online store and is not present in the company's direct plans as “we want the customer to visit our physical store,” Mr. Vlassis told ThessToday.gr.
Bibco stores still exist in Bulgaria, where the first store opened in 2019, and today there are 156 stores, and in Romania with more than 400 stores. The number of development points depends on the population of each country, while as expected, there is the largest network of Bibco retail stores. in Poland.
In May 2021, the group founded in 2015 made its debut on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and now has more than 4,800 stores in 20 countries where it employs around 47,000 employees.
