The Rogue Prince of Persia: First trailer and hands-on impressions from Unboxholics!

Yes, you read that correctly. 2024 may already be one Prince of Persia The Lost Crown game, but fans still have another chapter to look forward to very soon! the Ubisoft Just officially announced it Rogue Prince of Persia.

It is a 2D action platformer, which belongs to the roguelite genre. The game's gameplay is heavily focused on speed, with the Evil Empire development team overseeing the entire project. In case you don't know, this is the studio that released the beloved indie game Dead Cells a few years ago.

Below you'll find the first trailer for The Rogue Prince of Persia, which is expected to be released in Early Access format on Steam in May 14Plus Unboxholics first impressions.

Unboxholics hands-on experience with The Rogue Prince of Persia:

A few days ago I had the opportunity to test the upcoming Prince of Persia title live, after an invitation from Ubisoft. Of course, since the official reveal did not precede it, it seemed to me from the first minute strange that we would have once again, in such a short time, a new chapter in the series and even more so a 2D experience, since The Lost Crown was also 2D.

However, unlike The Lost Crown which was a metroidvania, here we are dealing with a roguelite. In fact, Ubisoft labels the game as one '2D roguelite and fast-paced action platformer' And the fast-paced characterization I can confirm is entirely appropriate. The speed and flow of gameplay was something that immediately impressed me once I got a handle on the game.

In practical terms, The Rogue Prince of Persia is more like 2D Hades, with an emphasis on fast-paced platforming and intense combat that requires quick thinking and proper execution. The game contains everything that distinguishes this genre. Each attempt is made very different by the items you obtain temporarily and important choices for your build that are always just a few meters away in the randomly generated worlds. The implementation of the roguelite structure is perfect and I think the early access release will greatly help the developers improve the balance. In fact, even in the hour I spent with The Rogue Prince of Persia, I was able to feel the addictive spark of the genre that makes you want to get into it “For one more” Being.

I have to point out that I really liked the fact that the game includes platforming and background graphics. This means that in addition to the platforms the character can jump on and other objects that can be grabbed, at every point where there is a wall behind him, the Prince can also do a wall run. As required in any self-respecting Prince of Persia game. At the same time, I found the game's music amazing, which gives a great rhythm to the game. The musicians chosen by Evil Empire and Ubisoft combined elements of electronic music and hip-hop with the charming and distinctive style of sounds we associate with the Middle East and the result is surprisingly impressive!

One thing that left me with mixed feelings were the visuals, which are very different from The Lost Crown, as they follow a much more cartoonish style.

Of course, at this point we should also thank Ubisoft for the invitation.
