Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who was seriously injured in an armed attack yesterday, Wednesday, “underwent another operation” and remains in a serious but conscious condition, Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kalinac said today, who visited him.
“He underwent surgery that lasted approximately two hours,” Kalinac explained during a press conference at the hospital in Banska Bystrica (central Slovakia).

Shortly before that, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that his Slovak counterpart was “between life and death.”

His Hungarian counterpart also indicated that even if he recovers, Robert Ficzó will remain unemployed for several months at a critical time before the European elections scheduled for early next month.
It is noteworthy that the assassination attempt on the Slovak Prime Minister was the first against a European political leader in more than 20 years and was condemned by the international community.
Political analysts and members of parliament say this has revealed an increasingly intense and polarized political climate in Slovakia and across Europe.
