G7: Joint statement on the war in Ukraine, migration, health and artificial intelligence

G7: Joint statement on the war in Ukraine, migration, health and artificial intelligence

The joint statement of the G7 leaders, who agreed during the conference in Italy to grant a loan worth almost $50 billion to Ukraine, was published.

In addition to helping Kiev with funds from frozen Russian assets (which angered Moscow), it was agreed that Russia must pay for the damage it caused in Ukraine, which so far amounts to $486 billion, based on World Bank data.

One of the issues raised in the 36-page statement is China’s unfair trade practices. For this reason, action will be taken against Chinese financial institutions that helped Russia obtain the weapons needed for its war against Ukraine.

It also addresses the issue of artificial intelligence, for universal access to adequate, affordable and high-quality health services for women, including comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights.

As for the abortion issue, which sparked a bitter dispute between Georgia Meloni and Emmanuel Macron, with cold smiles between the two leaders, it was mentioned without the disputed word.

The leaders also condemned the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and called on Israel to fully comply with its obligations under international and humanitarian law.
