Alexis Tsipras Institute: What Zoran Zav demanded of the leaders of Greece and North Macedonia

Shortly before the end of the two-day event, the former Prime Minister of North Macedonia took to the stage to thank those who had taken the stage at the International Conference on Peace, co-organized by the Alexis Tsipras Institute and the Zoran Zav Foundation. To participate in the conference, Prespa invited the governments of both countries to respect the agreement.

Alexis Tsipras Company: What Zoran Jau had to say

As Zoran Zaev characteristically said, “organizing a conference on peace and sustainable development a few years ago was absurd, especially after two world wars, when parts of the world defended democracy against some authoritarian regimes”.

“Looking at what is happening with the war in Ukraine, we must understand that peace is not a given forever. We, who until yesterday celebrated Europe as a continent of peace, today face the threat of war in the east of our continent,” he underlined.

“These threats have the potential to ‘attack’ peace across the planet,” he added. “These threats are even more real if we look at them from the perspective of the armed conflict between Israel and Palestine,” he pointed out.

“Ukraine’s victory will be our victory”

Zoran Zaev noted the need for Europe to support Ukraine in its war against Russia. “This defense means that victory will be our victory. On the contrary, a defeat in the noble war, which will not happen only in Ukraine, will be a defeat for freedom and democracy,” he said.

“Democratic societies today face a growing trend of extremist forces. “Whether they are right-wing or left-wing, they exhibit totalitarianism and must be decisively defeated,” Mr. Zaev underlined.

“Greece and North Macedonia must respect Prespa Agreement”

“This conference aims to contribute and build bridges and alliances between moderates and democrats,” he stressed. I believe that all of us, democrats, social democrats, socialists, leftists, are moderate, not radical politicians.

“I call on the leaderships of Greece and North Macedonia to respect the Prespa agreement. Good relations between the two countries should be our only priority,” concluded Zoran Jau.
