The new president of the Super League, Vangelis Marinakis, referred to the three-year plan that covers many issues from professional refereeing to the management of central television.
The Super League’s general assembly was held on Wednesday, where the federation made a decision on changing the format.
In his statement, the league president, Vangelis Marinakis, referred to the need to develop Greek football, while also setting out the guidelines for the new three-year period, which include, among other things, the activation of professional refereeing, independent professional football, central television management and general economic prosperity.
Vangelis Marinakis’ position at the Super League General Assembly:
“I would like to say to the General Assembly a few things about the goals and future of the cooperative.
I think that a Greek team winning the European Cup, regardless of whether it is Olympiacos, is a sign that we can all do better, that Greek football can do better. To update it, we all have to do it together.
I think it is useful that we are entering a new day and with the European Patent Office and the Union we will now be able to agree on the main issues.
I do not accept that Greek football is in the 15th-20th place in the UEFA rankings, while it is possible to be in the top 12 and that is our main goal.
The Austrian league, for example, cannot have a financial value that is 50 to 60 million dollars more than the Greek league.
So let’s talk about planning for the next three years.
- Changing the league format to a more competitive league and in the next few years, the Premier League to include a Premier League 2 with 15 teams plus 3B teams where teams have real owners and strict standards for stadiums, training, share ownership, capital etc. will compete.
- Greece in top 12 in UEFA rankings
- Finding resources and ways for the Greek league to get new stadiums as is happening in all similar leagues in Europe.
- Maximizing the value of Greek football coaches and players
- Removal from the body of football, offenders and bookmakers with specific participation criteria for teams.
- Professional football will decide its fate in all areas by raising the level of league services but also maximum autonomy in the main hubs according to the standards of the Premier League so that we can quickly reach the advanced leagues in Europe. An independent and strong economic league is also beneficial for the federation (EPO) because it will bring income to amateur football and the national team as well.
- Activate professional arbitration in cooperation with KED and with direct appointment in relation to people from UEFA and with people as I said before that the Greek representatives will not know and will not learn.
- And there is one thing I know that matters to all of you, and to all of us, and that is the economic prosperity of the cooperative and the new resources for the groups. And here I will dwell a little longer.
– The Premier League, in addition to the central sponsor, will also need central television management in order to improve income for everyone. The money given across Europe for TV rights is much higher and we will now demand it in Greece as well.
– Next year for Premier League 2 there will be a TV deal I think we will find around £4-5m, separate from the deal the Premier League will have.
– Sponsorship in all areas that will change the landscape as the entire league becomes a new product.
-Greater support from betting tax
– More significant financial corrections and reductions in financial relations with the European Patent Office
