Google Maps App Now integrates tachograph and speed limit in iOS and CarPlay – More than five years after its debut on Android – to help iPhone users avoid speeding fines while on the road.
An exclusive report from TechCrunch suggests that Google has begun integrating speedometers and speed limits for iPhone users around the world. When a person starts navigating through the Google Maps app, the car’s speed will be displayed in miles or kilometers, depending on the region.
Earlier last week, TechCrunch spotted that Google Maps was rolling out these new features in India. Now, Google confirmed on Tuesday that they’ll be rolling out worldwide.
Tachograph and speed limits are activated by tapping on your profile picture in the Google Maps app on iPhone and then going to Settings > Navigation > Driving. Once enabled, the speed limit indicator will change color to encourage users to drive within the designated area.
On the related support page, Google states that the tachograph displays the vehicle’s speed “for informational purposes only.” It’s wise to rely on your vehicle’s tachograph to confirm the actual speed you’re traveling at.
Google made tachograph and speed limit features available for Android devices in 2019. In May of the same year, the features were made available in more than 40 countries, after being tested in select markets.
