Ceasefire talks in Gaza strip Two Egyptian sources said tonight that the talks broke out after three days of intensive negotiations that did not produce a workable result, accusing Israel of having no real intention to reach an agreement.
The sources who spoke to the agency said: Reuters They, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the position of the Israeli mediators showed an “internal dispute.”
According to these sources, the Israeli delegation agreed to many of the conditions under discussion, but then returned with amendments or new conditions that threaten to collapse the negotiations. The mediators saw that “the contradictions, delays in responses and the introduction of new conditions contrary to what was previously agreed upon” are indications that the Israeli side considers the talks a formality aimed at influencing public opinion.
Earlier today, Egypt called on Israel not to derail peace talks by making new demands that contradict what was agreed upon, Egypt’s Cairo News Channel reported, citing a high-level source.
This source said that Israel is wasting time in official meetings to keep Israeli public opinion away from reaching an agreement.
