Today (15.07.2024) is a day of “great joy and emotion”, Freddie Peléris, who has been released from prison, announced at the headquarters of the European Parliament from Strasbourg.

ND MEP Freddie Peleris feels a great responsibility to meet the expectations created and thanked Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Greek people for the trust shown in him.

In an interview with ANT1 Bulletin today (16.07.2024), he said that all this time, there have been many messages in his favor.

Regarding his future and whether he hopes to be released from jail, he said he will report to the jail next Friday. “I have requested to be released from jail. I will return to Himarra. It’s my house. I’m not going to go. I will face the rest of the sentence.”

He pointed out that Heimarra is a place where Greeks and Albanians live and that they lived together for many years and that is how it should be. “We must have civil rights. We must have the right to self-determination,” he said with dignity.

Regarding the rule of law in Albania, he emphasized, “many cases show that justice and separation of powers do not work. I would like to believe that Albania is a European country geographically and culturally as well. But its leadership has made no attempt to approach the European Union.”

Finally, he mentioned his duties and stressed that this was unprecedented for him and that he would seek the help of former Greek MEPs. “I’ll do well,” he declared.
