Talks between Israel and Hamas in Cairo ended without reaching an agreement.

The talks aim to declare a ceasefire in Gaza Strip They were terminated last Sunday night without reaching an agreement, and neither of them happened. agitationno Israel They accepted the new proposal presented to them by mediators, two sources in the Egyptian security forces told Reuters news agency a while ago.

Hamas said Sunday it had rejected new Israeli terms set for ceasefire talks in Gaza, casting further doubt on the chances of progress in the latest U.S.-backed effort to end the 10-month war, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Months of talks have failed to reach an agreement to end Israel’s military campaign in Gaza or release the remaining hostages taken by Hamas in its October 7 attack on Israel that sparked the war.

Key sticking points in the ongoing talks mediated by the United States, Egypt and Qatar include: Israeli presence in the Philadelphia corridorIt is a narrow 14.5-kilometre (nine-mile) stretch along Gaza’s southern border with Egypt.

Hamas said Israel had reneged on its pledge to withdraw its forces from the corridor and set other new conditions, including control over displaced Palestinians as they return to the more populous northern enclave when a ceasefire begins.

“We will not accept talk of withdrawals from what we agreed upon on July 2 or about new conditions,” Hamas official Osama Hamdan told Al-Aqsa TV on Sunday.

The US says the operation will continue in the coming days.

White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Sunday that the United States is still working in Cairo to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, adding that the United States is concerned about the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East into a wider war.

Meanwhile, a US official told The Times of Israel that hostage talks held in Cairo in recent days were “constructive and conducted in the spirit of reaching a final, workable agreement with all parties who share these sentiments.”

The US official said, “The process will continue in the coming days through working groups to further address the remaining issues and details.”

It is worth noting that American officials appear to be the only party in the talks that appears optimistic about the progress being made.
