The boys, aged 9 and 12, were digging in sand dunes on a beach in northern Jutland on Sunday when the dune collapsed and crushed them.
Danish media reported that the two boys, who were on vacation with their families, were trapped in the sand for 40 minutes, during which time people on the beach were digging to free them.
They were taken to hospital in serious condition, local police said yesterday.
In a separate incident, another boy was trapped yesterday after a sandstorm in southwest Jutland, but was quickly rescued unharmed.
“We are urging caution in sand dune areas after landslides on the west coast yesterday,” North Jutland Emergency Services wrote to X today.
Authorities ask locals and tourists to stay on designated paths, watch children, not climb steep hills or dig holes in the sand dunes.
As they warned, sand dunes in the southwestern part of Jutland have become unstable due to recent heavy rains.
