In a state of shock, Marios Athanasiou spoke publicly about the brutal incident he saw happen in New Philadelphia, when a girl was raped naked in a central part of the avenue and was trying to get help.
The actor reported the incident in a video he posted on his personal Instagram account, calling for reduced penalties for rape and sexual assault of minors.
“Yesterday I witnessed a very difficult incident in New Philadelphia. A girl who was a victim of rape was in a central place on the street at night, naked, and people were around her trying to help, and the police. Cars were passing by and it was a very difficult situation, the first thing that comes to my mind is dealing with the police, and I am not talking about good police and bad police in general if I was in your place, if you had the intelligence or stupidity to understand that a girl cannot be naked on the street, with 20 passersby who want to help, and you did not take the necessary measures to allow the girl to be naked in a more protected environment, a blanket… and the cars watching this happen with curiosity… This left a terrible impression on me and stunned me,” said Marios Athanasiou at first.
“If I had taken a video, which I didn’t for obvious reasons, we would be talking about other things now,” he continued. “There is a responsibility in this difficulty, and it is a difficult story of this girl’s life anyway.” From now on.
“Once again, on the occasion of these events, we will once again talk about tightening the laws. It is not out of my hands, we will all do it together. We are citizens and we have every right to demand and demand it. I believe that the rape and abuse of minors should be the most severe punishment that can exist in this country, and do not go – because this is the system – if you are found guilty of a crime, you will be punished with the lightest punishment that applies in the country’s criminal law”, underlined Marios Athanasiou, among others.
