A big blow to the gaming industry – will it affect GTA 6 or not?

Voice actors and other gaming industry workers represented by the union numb-after They announced a strike starting today, Friday, July 26, after failed negotiations to protect them from artificial intelligence technologies.

Despite reaching agreements on various issues, the union claims that the companies have not adequately ensured protections against AI misuse in a clear and enforceable manner. This strike, then, means that union representatives will not be available to perform motion capture or voiceover work for these companies’ games.

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher stressed that the union would not accept a contract that allowed AI to be used at the expense of its members. Lead negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland highlighted the profitability of the industry and the essential role SAG-AFTRA members play in bringing game characters to life, demanding fair compensation and informed consent for the use of AI.

Grand Theft Auto VI is in development exclusively for current-gen consoles, the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. A release date has yet to be determined, but we do know that it is expected to release sometime in 2025.
