Major motherboard manufacturers such as ASUS, ASRock, GIGABYTE, and MSI have introduced new AM5 socket motherboards to support the upcoming AMD Ryzen 9000 Series (Granite Ridge) ‘Zen 5’ processors, which will be released in July.
With the official announcement of the new processors, motherboard manufacturers took advantage of Computex 2024 to showcase their new products, which will also support the older Ryzen 8000 Series (Hawk Point) and Ryzen™ 7000 Series (Raphael) processors.
In summary, the main features of the new AMD Ryzen 9000 Series (Granite Ridge) processors are as follows:
- Zain Building 5: Improved IPC (instructions per cycle) with each Zen 5 core able to execute more instructions per clock cycle, resulting in improved performance compared to previous generations. Beyond improvements to IPCWe have also improved energy efficiency, both at the basic level and at the manufacturing level thanks to the third methodnm Ha TSMC.
- Number of cores: Up to 16 cores and 32 threads on some models, providing improved performance in demanding “multi-threaded” applications and games. Of course, they still use this technique Smt (Synchronized Multi–strings).
- 3nm manufacturing method: Thanks to the use of advanced manufacturing method 3nm Ha TSMC Delivering increased performance and energy efficiency.
- Support DDR5-8000+: Support DDR5-8000 and higher memories (via profile AMD Expo), providing faster data transfer and improving overall system performance.
- PCIe 5.0 support: Its new platform AMD It now makes it necessary to use templates like USB 4 and Cry 5.0 for graphics cards and storage media to improve overall system performance. Template Cry Version 5.0 provides approximately twice the bandwidth compared to PCIe 4.0, providing faster data transfer for graphics cards and storage media.
- improve the performance iGPU: Integrated RDNA 3 architecture graphics deliver better performance for everyday tasks and casual gaming without the need for a discrete graphics card.
Support for modern technologies: Compatibility with modern APIs such as DirectX 12 Ultimate and Vulkan.
The new motherboards are based on the AMD X870 and AMD X870E chipsets, featuring USB 4 (40Gbps) and PCIe 5.0 for graphics cards and M.2 NVMe® SSD storage. Additionally, it supports higher memory operating frequencies (such as DDR5-8000) via AMD EXPO profiles.
