A police officer who specializes in child sex offenses went viral when she shared online the five rules she applies to her children to keep them safe from pedophiles.
Terra Avilla frequently posts information related to child abuse and domestic violence on TikTok. Her latest videos Mother Of three children, she sparked controversy, stating the five things her children are forbidden to do.
Based in Connecticut, USA, Avila notes that while some of the advice may come as a surprise, it’s based on years of experience on the job.
So first rule For her children, they are forbidden to sleep at home. “I got so much hate for that,” she said in her first video, explaining that it wasn’t worth the risk. “You never know who will be there or who might slip up in the night.”
Rule number two: Her children are banned from using Snapchat because there are a large number of those who use the popular app to seduce their young victims.
She points out that the app also poses a significant risk of revealing your location and because children mistakenly believe that sent photos can be permanently deleted.
“Nothing good comes from this app,” he says.
Third ruleAccording to the police officer, she never forces her children to hug or kiss anyone – including family and friends.
According to her, it is important to understand that children can consent to physical contact. “I know it sounds bad, but that’s their body and if they don’t want to hug someone, they have the right to set their own boundaries.”
The first three rules generated interest online and were followed by a second video.
«There is a big difference between a secret and a surprise. “Children need to know that, an adult outside the home should never tell a child to keep a secret,” she said, adding that it’s only okay to keep a secret from a friend if it will protect them.
EndShe says she doesn’t allow her children to use “silly names for their private parts,” insisting that correct anatomical terminology be used. This makes it easier for them to explain the situation to the authorities if something goes wrong.
The videos were filled with comments, with many parents expressing their gratitude for the list. “Pediatrician in NICU and mom here, I agree with you on everything,” one user wrote, while another added: “I feel the same way about sleeping in another home, that would never happen.”
