Nintendo has a new surprise in store for its friends: New Zelda titleWhere players will be able to control the princess of the legendary fantasy adventure series.
Nintendo has sold more than 140 million units of the Zelda series since the first title’s release in 1986, making it one of the most successful franchises in gaming history, providing countless hours of entertainment through the Japanese company’s successive consoles.
The new game, titled “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom,” will be released for Switch on September 26, according to Nintendo’s announcement.
The many adventures described in these games usually feature the heroic Link trying to rescue Princess Zelda, who has usually been kidnapped or disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
But in the new title, the heroine will be Zelda.
“This time Link is gone,” Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma said in a video clip published by Nintendo. “So Princess Zelda was called in to take the lead role.”
Nintendo’s gameplay of “Echoes of Wisdom” is aesthetically and thematically reminiscent of 2019’s “Link’s Awakening,” a puzzle-based platformer with a cute cartoon aesthetic that was a reboot of the classic game that was originally released for the Game Boy in 1993 .
Zelda teams up with Tri, a mysterious fairy, and together they use magical powers to create echoes, which Nintendo describes as “imitating objects in the environment.” These simulations act as tools for players to solve various puzzles and defeat opponents in the game.
In fact, Nintendo states that players will be able to find their own creative combinations of this magical tradition to approach the game as they see fit.
The upcoming release of a new game in the Zelda series was the second surprise announcement from Nintendo in recent weeks.
In early May, Nintendo president Shodaro Furukawa announced that the company would launch a successor to the popular Switch console by March 2025.
This announcement was met with enthusiasm by Nintendo fans who have long been eagerly awaiting a potential successor to the Switch, which has already achieved 7 years of success in the market.
