While protests flare up in the country’s police stations
The government has “put on the table” a series of measures in order to compel all citizens to obtain the new police ID card by 2026.
Some groups’ protests in the country’s police stations may be “on fire”, but as everything shows, the government has no intention of “backing off” on the issue of new identities.
According to the Mega report, government sources say that various measures are being considered for the comprehensive implementation of new identities from 2026, such as:
- Traveling abroad only with a new ID (August 2026 onwards).
- Charge without the new identity of transactions with the public.
- Cancellation of the 10-year validity procedure for old ID cards.
According to the report, The selection of 2026 as the historic year for the transition from old to new identities was not accidental, because in April of that year, the “deadline” set by the United States for the identities we use today expires. In more detail, it should be noted that the United States does not consider it reliable, emphasizing that it is easy to forge.
In addition, the corresponding deadline set by the European Union for similar reasons expires in August 2026. This means that, unlike today, no one will be able to travel within the European Union with an old ID card.
