“Ultima Generazione (Last Generation)” activists who throw liquid coal into fountains in Italy have struck again. The target of the “philanthropist” activists was the famous Trevi Fountain in Rome.
It all happened on Sunday morning (21.5.2023) when activists threw liquid carbon from the plant into the historic fountain in protest against fossil fuel investment, which they say is directly linked to the devastating floods that have swept across northern Italy in recent days.
The protest came as the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, arrived in Emilia-Romagna to visit areas devastated by floods, where 14 people have been killed and more than 36,000 displaced.
For activists, what happened in Emilia-Romagna is a warning of what might lie ahead for Italy if investment in fossil fuels is not halted.
