After 5 years, Energizer returns to MWC with a smartphone equipped with a 28,000 mAh battery

After the smartphone with an 18,000 mAh battery that we saw five years ago at the same exhibition, the company's new proposal is a monster with a battery… 28,000 mAh

Determined to surpass the impression it made at MWC 2019, when it unveiled an 18,000 mAh battery that almost contained a mobile phone on top of it, Avenir Telecom has relaunched MWC 2024, presents its new proposal with a capacity of 28,000 mAh. It was one of the most interesting and strange exhibits at this year's Barcelona exhibition.

The device is called the Hard Case P28K and, like its predecessor, is available under the Energizer brand, with Avenir acquiring the rights to use it from the battery maker of the same name. The company claims that the capacity of the P28K is enough to allow it to remain unplugged for a full week, with normal use. Meanwhile, the device is certified for IP69 durability, which means it's able to withstand any kind of adventure its owner would like to accompany it, far from any charging point. Talk time is up to 122 hours or just over five days, while the device can remain in standby mode for up to 2,252 hours or just over three Months.

On the downside, we're talking about a small brick. At 27.8mm thick and 570g, the P28K hard case is three times the thickness and weight of the iPhone 15. So, yes, for those who want a light and comfortable device, the P28K is probably not the ideal solution. However, it does have the ability to fast charge up to 33W, while Avenir claims the device reaches a full charge in just under an hour and a half, obviously using the 36W charger included in the package.

If one again insists on judging this design as a traditional smartphone, then we are talking about entry-level capabilities. There is no 5G, while its processor is the simple MediaTek MT6789. Besides the huge battery, you also get 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, a triple rear camera, Android 14, and a 6.78-inch 1080p LCD screen.

Avenir Telecom plans to market the Energizer Hard Case P28K for $249.99 when it goes on sale sometime in October of this year. It will be available worldwide but not in the US.
